What to know before

Who it's for

  • Platform engineers taking a team's first workloads to EKS in production. Kubernetes Fundamentals (or equivalent Kubernetes experience) is a prerequisite - this training is AWS-specific, not a Kubernetes primer.
  • Teams already running Kubernetes elsewhere who need to adopt AWS-specific networking and IAM patterns.

You'll learn to

  • Deploy and operate an EKS cluster with production-grade networking, autoscaling, and observability.
  • Set up a GitOps deployment flow your team can extend after the training ends.
  • Recognize the operational habits that keep clusters calm: upgrade cadence, capacity planning, and incident response.

    • Cluster provisioning with eksctl or Terraform
    • EKS architecture vs. vanilla Kubernetes
    • IAM for Kubernetes: IRSA
    • Node groups vs. Fargate
  2. Day 2

    • EKS networking: VPC CNI and security groups for pods
    • Load balancer controller
    • Ingress patterns specific to AWS
  3. Day 3

    • EBS and EFS CSI drivers
    • Autoscaling: Cluster Autoscaler vs. Karpenter
    • HPA and right-sizing node groups
  4. Day 4

    • GitOps deployment with ArgoCD or Flux
    • Upgrade cadence and capacity planning
    • Incident-response drill

The MVJ Method

  • Your infrastructure, not a sandbox. Wherever possible, exercises run against your actual AWS accounts and tooling, so what gets built in the room is what ships on Monday.
