How it started
On July 19, 2023 I took over co-hosting the AWS User Group Frankfurt. Since then we've run a meetup every single month, no gaps, no skipped seasons. Doors open, pizza and drinks, a couple of talks from people actually running things in production, then an hour of hallway conversations that usually teach me more than the talks did.
The monthly cadence
That's the part I'm proudest of: not one missed month since July 2023. We rotate through host offices around Frankfurt and Eschborn, mix in the occasional larger event like an AWS Community GameDay, and keep the format the same every time so regulars know exactly what to expect. Back in July 2023 the group had around 1,600 members. Growing a local meetup by that much without it turning into a marketing channel takes actual monthly work, not a launch post and a hope.
From AWS Ambassador to community lead
This isn't a new interest picked up for visibility. I wrote about losing my AWS Ambassador status when I left my previous partner organization in mid-2023 and said I'd keep contributing to the community on my own terms. Co-hosting AWS UG Frankfurt is that promise kept: same community, same topics, just organized locally instead of through a partner program.
